Shelley takes the title

2010 BTRDA British Champion

Father & daughter duo set off for the long haul to Pembrey race circuit in south Wales at the weekend for the final & decisive Championship round. Richards’s mini was back on fine form with the lack of power problem he had suffered at the last round being rectified & Shelley’s Honda Civic Type R had been fitted with a new limited Slip Differential so she was ready to give it a good test.

Richard set off the day in fine form

Richard set off the day in fine form with heat one finishing 4th, heat 2 he had a second place & in his final heat he finished 3rd. The results qualified him in 4th position on the gird on the 2nd row & sat right behind the 3 championship contenders. The lights flashed & Richard made a fantastic start, there was a little bit of bumping from the top three, Richard saw the gap & was straight up into 2nd position, there were a lot of places being changed from 3rd place down but Revivals run first place George Edwardes & Richard Wakeling were on for the top two podium places. The chequered flag was waved & a top result for the team, not only did they take the top two podium places George Edwardes also took the 2010 Edwardes Brothers Minicross Championship & Richard finished 4th overall. Top result for the team Revivals.

Richard finished 4th overall

Shelley started her day off with the 3rd fastest time in her first heat & then set the fastest times in heats two & three which then qualified her for pole position for the final, the overall British Clubman’s championship all hinged on this final. With her closest rival behind her on the grid she had to make a good start. As soon as the lights flashed the Honda gripped & charged forward but the rear wheel drive BMW next to Shelley reached the corner first, She charged after him, hot on his heels & as he moved just a fraction to the left, this left a big enough hole for Shelley to jump into & she was in the lead. Shelley charged off & took the chequered flag for the win & the title of ‘2010 BTRDA British Champion’. Shelley is the first ever lady driver to take the Overall British Clubman’s title in over 80 years & to top it off she also got awarded with ‘the driver of the day’ award.

Latest News: Round 7, Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Kent

Revivals Race team travelled to Lydden Hill Race Circuit near Dover for Round 7 of the British Rallycross Championship.

Richard Wakeling had three great heats, starting off with a 5th in heat 1, a 4th in heat 2 & a fantastic 2nd in his last heat. Those 3 positions qualified him 6th for the final off the 3rd row of the grid. The lights flashed & he stormed the field up into 3rd position. Richard drove a brilliant race, he was hounded by the Hudson Brothers all the way, until the final corner when he just stepped his mini wide & the boys took full advantage & pushed on through taking the podium position, Richard crossed the line in 5th. Richard was disappointed with the 5th place but that position still keeps him in contention for a top three place overall in the 2010 Edwardes Brothers Rallycross Championship.

Shelley Wakeling also had a storming day with three fantastic heat wins qualifying her 5th on the grid behind the front row of the three more powerful cars. She launched her car away when the lights flashed, making the most of her grid position she drove right round the outside of the 3rd placed BMW & straight into 3rd. the BMW chased her giving her a few nudges to remind her he was there, Shelley kept her nerve but the Honda hit a hole on the last lap & bent the hub causing the Honda to have massive steering problems, she lost several places & ended up finishing 6th. She still took her class win but was disappointed to have lost the podium position for the day. After the results for Round 7 Shelley has taken the 2010 British Clubman’s Super Modified 2000 Championship & is still leading the overall British Clubman’s championship with two rounds to go.

Latest News: Round 6, Mallory Park, Braintree, Essex

Revivals Motorsport Team from Braintree in Essex travelled to Mallory Park for Round six of the Championship. Both father & Daughter Richard & Shelley Wakeling took their race cars. The day started off slowly with a few incidents & causing the organisers to cancel heat three for all the competitors. With only the first two heats both Richard & Shelley lost out on their front row starts, so the pair had a lot to do to qualify for good grid positions in the final.

Richard was off the 3rd row in his first heat, the lights flashed & he made a great start & was up into 5th, he caught 4th placed George Edwardes and made a superb move around the outside on the top bend, he was up in to 4th & started to chase for 3rd but the chequered flag was waved & he settled for his position. Again in the 2nd heat Richard was off the 3rd row, he couldn’t make such a startling start as he did in the first heat but he still managed to get up into 7th. He tried the great outside move again on 6th place Tommi Edwardes & he made it stick giving him 6th place; those two positions qualified him on the 3rd row of the final grid. When the lights flashed Richard made a good start & was straight up into 5th position. He charged round after 4th place George Edwardes, but with the track cutting up there was only one line, then on the final lap 2nd & 3rd places Ben Clark & John Thacker got beaten by the track conditions & both their cars came to a halt, promoting Richard to 3rd place this now puts Richard in sixth position in the 2010 Edwardes Brothers Rallycross Championship.

Revivals Race team - Round 6 of the British Rallycross Championship

Shelley started on the inside of the 2nd row in her first heat. She made the jump on the cars on the front row & managed to squeeze up the inside, she held onto 2nd place until the chequered flag. Shelley was on the 2nd row again in heat two but on the outside, she had to make a good start to get around the cars on the inside, as soon as the lights flashed she certainly stuck to her plan & drove all the way round the outside to the first corner in first place. She kept the lead until the flag was waved. Those two results qualified Shelley 3rd on the outside of the front row. The lights flashed, Shelley just didn’t have enough grip on the loose that had been dragged on to the start line & lost positions but as soon as the Honda gripped she was off & into 5th position, the first corner saw some carnage from the front runners & the race was red flagged & stopped for a re-run, this certainly was a 2nd life line for Shelley, she was not going to make the same mistake again. As soon as the lights flashed Shelley turned right to avoid the loose, she had instant grip & didn’t lose anything she was right behind the first place BMW, she had great fun chasing him round looking for gaps & mistakes but the BMW driver drove a great race & Shelley settled for 2nd place. This keeps Shelley at the top of her class & the top of the British Clubman’s Championship.

Shelley settled for 2nd place

The team are out again at the weekend for Round 7, this time at Lydden Hill race circuit near Dover on bank holiday Monday.

Richards 2nd & 3rd heats saw great consistency which qualified him 6th for the A Final & off the 3rd row of the grid. He made a good start & chased round until unfortunately on the final lap his engine seize up solid & that was the end of his final. A little bit of work to be done before the next round but a nice newly built engine will definitely see Richard back at the front of the pack contending for the podium places.

Shelley had slightly better luck in her Civic and had three brilliant heats qualifying her on pole position for the B Final. If she won the B Final she would be promoted into the A final with the Super Modified & 4WD cars which would be a great fun. The lights stayed on for the full 5 seconds & as soon as they went out nobody missed a beat & they were off. Shelley made a great start & stormed through the chicane first. She got clear of the chasing pack until a slight error on the loose bend saw 2nd place Jonny Bean in his BMW 328 catch up & smother her boot with Blue. All she could see in her mirror was Blue BMW but she kept it together & held her lines, the BMW tried all kind of moves but Shelley got to the chequered flag first.

After refuelling she went straight round to the A Final where she was off the back row of the grid. The lights went out & another great start saw Shelley up into 7th, she had great fun chasing the more the powerful cars but didn’t make up any more positions & finished her day 7th & winner of her Modified 2000 Class, where she is till leading the 2010 British Clubman’s Championship.

Knockhill in Scotland

Richard was in his Orange 469 mini & had a front row start in the first heat, he made a great start but an unnecessary shove from behind saw him seeing the tyre wall a little closer than he expected. The car was low loaded back to the pits where the Revivals team set about the repairs. A new radiator & repairs to the front end & Richard was ready to go. A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everybody that helped ‘Jonothan Edwardes’ from the Championship Sponsor ‘Edwardes Brothers’, Mark O’Flannagan, Paul Bird, Kenny Hudson, everybody was a great help & true to the Minicross form Richard was out for Heat two, although maybe a little heavier with cable ties, duct tape & bungee straps!!

Unfortunately it wasn't to be Richards’s day with his heats but he still managed to make the third row of the grid in 7th position for the final. The lights flashed & Richard was on it, he made a storming start & passed 4 cars off the start & was straight up in to 3rd. He charged round the laps with 4th placed Keifer Hudson hotly perusing him, Keifer made a late lunge & got through to 3rd, Richard chased until the chequered flag but the youngster held it together & Richard settled for fourth which was fantastic from 7th off the grid.

In the middle of the week it looked like Shelley was going to miss Round 3 as she was stuck in Australia with friends due to the volcano disruption & with a due date home of the 11th May it didn’t look good but after a lot of phone calls she managed to get back to take her newly modified Honda Civic Type R out for it's first outing in Scotland. The Revivals team had been making adjustments to the car whilst Shelley had been away & they paid off with great success, she had three fantastic heats with a 2nd in the first heat & her first win in the 2nd heat followed up by another great win in the 3rd heat!! She qualified 4th in the final best result to date & putting her on the 2nd row of the grid. The weather wasn’t being kind as the heavens opened & the track got immersed in water for the final, great for aqua-plaining. The lights flashed & unfortunately the Honda didn't look for any grip as Shelley tried to race away, she got to the first corner & the front runners had scattered everywhere, two of the Vauxhall Astra’s had spun into the gravel & everyone was trying to avoid the mess, Shelley squeezed through & got up to 4th, she kept it real with the awful track conditions & just held her place until the chequered flag, best result to date with a 3rd overall in her class keeps Shelley at the top of the championship.

Latest News: Round 2, April 2010

Revivals Racing team headed off to Lydden again at the weekend for Round 2. Richard Wakeling in his mini & Shelley in her Honda Civic Type R.

Shelley had a slow start but soon made up for a disappointing first heat in the 2nd where she battled for the lead with Derek Tohill in his BMW M3 328, the lead changed hands several times with Shelley eventually settling for 2nd. The 3rd heat was pretty uneventful but a 4th saw her qualify 7th for the A final, She made a blistering start & was challenging for 3rd but because she was on the outside off the grid she got pushed wide onto ‘Chessons’ & the others sneaked up the inside & she had to slide into 5th, she had great fun chasing after the 4th place but couldn’t pull off any moves & had to settle for 6th. In her Modified 2000 class Shelley finished 2nd which is a great result after just two rounds.

Richard set off the weekend in his mini with three great heats & qualified 5th on the gird for the final. He too made a lightening start & blitz passed two of the young lads. He had a great battle with Kris Hudson in 4th who was putting pressure on Richard to make a mistake but he kept his cool & started to make clear space between his 3rd & Kris’s 4th. He passed the chequered flag in 3rd, fantastic result for the second round of the championship.

Revivals Racing Team had their first outing of the 2010 season at Lydden Hill in Kent. Revivals Owner Richard Wakeling took his Minicross car with daughter Shelley in her Honda Civic Type R.

It was Richard’s first championship round for over 2 years & he took to it like a duck to water. After his timed practise he qualified 4th fastest, which was pretty impressive after being out of the game. He had three pretty closely contested heats with some great battles with the youngsters & managed to stay true to form & qualified 4th for the final. This put him off the second row on the grid, the lights blinked & he was off, he mad a fantastic start & was up into third by ‘chessons drift’ but a slight mistake saw him get passed by a couple of the young masters & he was back to 5th he chased the lads round for the 4 laps but the pace had been set & he didn’t make up any more ground. It was a great start to the beginning of the season.

Great sequence of Richard making a good start in the final

Shelley set off for the first time this season with a timed practise which qualified her on the outside of the 5 car start line. It was pretty exciting when the lights blinked & all five cars had to get round ‘Chessons Drift’ together. She got up to 2nd when the red flags came out & a restart had to be made. After the blink of the lights again, Shelley made it to 3rd this time & had a great race chasing after the modified cars. After her three exciting heats she qualified 3rd for the final. Again the cars lined up along side each other, the lights blinked & they were away, she beat the BMW 328 into Chessons & he chased her round, after a mistake on ‘devils elbow’ the BMW then had the run on her up ‘hairy hill’ he squeezed her out & just managed the pass before they got into ‘paddock bend’ Shelley had great fun chasing after him, the two of them closed up the leader Stuart Emery who later retired due to engine trouble & she crossed the line in 2nd. Brilliant start to the season, a second on the day & a win for her ‘Mod 2000’ class.
